Bourton-On-The-Water

The village of Bourton-on-the-Water is known for its picturesque High Street, surrounded by long wide greens and the River Windrush that runs through them. The river is crossed by several low, arched stone bridges. These arched bridges have led to Bourton-on-the-Water being called the 'Venice of the Cotswolds'.

Standing back from the river are traditional Cotswold stone buildings, many of which are now tourist shops for the day-trippers and visitors. During the summer time, a game of medieval football is played in the river windrush itself. Crowds line the banks of the river to watch, whilst both teams play with a standard football and the aim is to score as many goals as possible whilst getting everybody else wet.

Bourton-on-the-water has a number of different attractions popular with tourists and local residents.

Birdland is an authentic zoo for birds ranging from penguins right through to parrots, it is also home to a magnificent variety of exotic birds.

The model village is a excellent miniature of Bourton, built by local craftsmen, using authentic building materials depicting Bourton-on-the-Water as was in the 1930s, it later opened in 1937.

Cotswold Motoring Museum and toy collection is a truly fascinating journey through the 20th century. The museum is overflowing with vintage car collections, classic cars, motorcycles and caravans. It is also known for being the home to TV's 'Brum' - the children’s tv programme that started in the early 90's.

The Bourton Model railway is located on the high street and boasts some of the finest operating indoor model railway layouts in the country, covering over 500 feet of track.

These attractions are just to name a few, there is something for everybody here in Bourton-On-The-Water.

  • The Cotswolds is one of Great Britain's most popular tourism destinations. With a wide selection of enjoyments for all ages the Cotswolds has everything from beautiful countryside to walk, explore and enjoy through to designer shops, galleries and museums.

We are very lucky to have the multi award winning Dormy House Hotel in Broadway as sponsor of Tourism on Cotswold TV, making the coverage of community spirited tourist attractions, towns, villages, events and more possible on Cotswold TV.

Perched high above the village of Broadway, with fabulous views across the Cotswolds, Dormy House is the perfect rural retreat. Think cosy corners, log fires and sumptuous interiors. Like home, but better. Built around a 17th century farmhouse, Dormy House is a lesson in fine design. It’s only when you step inside that you begin to understand what the Dormy is really about. Contemporary design meets Cotswold chic. It’s a relaxing place where you’re encouraged to put your feet up. After all, isn’t that what furniture is really for?

Not only for staying the night, Dormy House has long been at the centre of the Cotswold’s gastronomic map with two delicious dining experiences. The Garden Room restaurant proves that fine dining doesn’t have to be fussy while next door The Potting Shed is all about great local grub.

Thank you Dormy House for promoting the Cotswolds with us, here on Cotswold TV.
